May 2007 Baroody Withdraws Name from Consumer Products Safety Commission Gov. John Engler, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, has released a stinging rebuke against the campaign to fight the nomination of NAMs senior lobbyist Michael Baroody to head the Consumer Product and Safety Commission. On the trade groups website, Engler rails against a smear campaign waged against Baroody, including the release of a financial payout from NAM upon taking the new post. Watching this abuse of process, apparently without consequence for the wrongdoers, makes me wonder why any qualified citizen would submit to run todays Senate gauntlet.
